Darla Records presents a remastered reissue of Avalon Sutra, Harold Budd’s 2004 ambient masterpiece originally released on David Sylvian’s SamadhiSound label. This limited edition of 500 includes two colored vinyl LPs - LP1 on Agave Green and LP2 on Gold Medallion Tree Yellow - as well as a CD featuring the hour-long track As Long As I Can Hold My Breath (By Night).

The album has been remastered from the original DAT master by Bradford Ellis, Harold Budd’s longtime studio collaborator, restoring the full dynamic range that was flattened in the original 2004 release. Avalon Sutra is a deeply emotional suite of short, atmospheric pieces that showcase Budd’s signature piano work, elegant string arrangements, and subtle electronic textures. The bonus disc features a haunting reinterpretation by Akira Rabelais, expanding Budd’s compositions into spacious, dreamlike soundscapes.

Originally believed to be his final work, Avalon Sutra marked a reflective moment in Budd’s career. Fortunately, he continued to compose and release music, entering one of the most prolific phases of his life. This reissue is a must-have for fans of ambient, minimalism, and Budd’s collaborations with Brian Eno.
